BCGP Resources

With the growing geriatric population, this certification is great to have. Before I took the BCPS exam I took the BCGP exam. The Content outline for BCGP is much less than that in BCPS, so there is much less to study and prepare for. In my experience, I thought the questions on the BCGP exam were a little tougher and less time per question compared to BCPS. Biostatistics was a lot less in this exam compared to BCPS. So if you are weak in Biostatistics, you may want to consider taking this exam. Requirement is that, you just have to be licensed pharmacist for 2 years. If you are a long term care pharmacist or retail pharmacist and want to advance in career, this the perfect certification to have.

When I took the exam, the only study review course was offered by the ASCP. Now the ASHP also offers review courses. ASCP definitely helped me pass the first time I took it. I would recommend using both ASCP review courses and ASHP prep courses. I would also suggest going through the contents outlined by the BPS and studying disease states and topics not covered by the ASCP and ASHP. Also, go through the questions and answers on Pharmacyquestionbank.com BCGP practice questions to test your knowledge and learn by answering questions and reading the explanations. It focuses on Geriatric disease states, studies and guidelines published around geriatrics. It also has few questions on biostatistics, MUE and DUR.  Questions are made to mimic real exam.
