BCPS Resources

If you are reading this page you must be thinking or have decided to take this exam. That is Great!! Before I took the BCPS exam I would look at the pharmacist with BCPS and think they must be super smart, I thought I would never pass it. But tell you what, I studied hard, took the exam and passed the first time with a good score. After all, the exam is not too bad. I want to share my experience with all the pharmacist out there, that are trying to take the exam.

Domain I, is Patient-Centered Pharmacotherapy. There are several disease states they can ask you questions on in this Domain. They can ask you anything from the least expected topic like acne or pulmonary hypertension to most common disease state like diabetes or CHF. So study all the disease states listed on the content of BPS. Domain II is Drug Information and Evidence Based Medicine, this is a narrow topic, small content, which won’t take you much time to study. 25% of the questions are from this domain. There are good resources  and study materials for Domain II. This is the domain I would advise to prepare well. If you get 100 % questions right on this domain you have a better chance of passing the exam. When it comes to domain III, System-Based Standards and Population-Based Pharmacotherapy, this is the domain, I was most worried for, it is a wide range of topics. Can’t really tell what they can ask in this domain. If you are in an administrative role, been working in hospital for a long time or have a residency you may be okay. ASHP and ACCP has good information. I don’t remember if it is enough.

Go well prepared!! Try to study everything from the content outlined by the BPS. No, one study material is enough. If you are using ACCP study guide, I can’t guarantee all the BCPS questions in the exam will come from ACCP study guide alone. I personally used ACCP study guide and I also attended and took ASHP BCPS live prep courses. These two are the best study guide and prep courses there is out there. I also used Clinical Pharmacist’s Guide to Biostatistics and Literature Evaluation by Robert DiCenzo for my Domain II. I would suggest going through the content outlined by the BPS and studying disease states and topics not covered by the ASHP and ACCP. I also suggest going through the questions and answers on Pharmacyquestionbank.com BCPS practice questions to test your knowledge and learn by answering questions and reading the explanations. It covers a lot of disease states and lot of biostatistics. Questions are made to mimic real exam.
